Policies and Procedures
The policies and procedures of the Sturgis Department of Public Safety are available for public review.
It is the policy of the Sturgis Department of Public Safety to give equal treatment, under the law, to all people, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, politics, national origin, lifestyle, or similar characteristics. The officers of the Brownwood Police Department will only stop or detain citizens when reasonable suspicion or probable cause exists to believe they have committed, are committing, or are about to commit a violation of the law, or for other lawful purposes. Officers of the Sturgis Department of Public Safety are strictly prohibited from initiating any action that constitutes racial or biased-influenced policing.
Definition of biased-influenced policing: The selection of an individual(s) based solely on a trait common to a group for enforcement action. This includes but is not limited to race, ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation, religion, economic status, age, cultural group or any other identifiable group.
